Committed to the Cause

Coming together from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, our skilled team of volunteers are the backbone of Sports Skills for Life Skills Alumni Network. Their ideas help shape the direction and mission of our organization as it continues to develop. Read on to learn more about some of our incredible team members.

CRAIG WILLIAMS

President (and Director of Digital)

Craig was one of the founding members of the Sports Skills for Life Skills Alumni Network. He aims to serve with vision and drive to help establish the network and focus on developing it with his experience and integrity. Craig is a former first class cricketer and has over 13 years of technology risk consulting experience in the private sector. A father of two and a devoted husband, he hopes to leave a lasting legacy that will carry on for many years to serve this wonderful program and its participants. Craig is a former SS4LS and UWC 1XI cricket captain who holds a Bachelors of Commerce (Honours) Degree at UWC, majoring in Information Systems.

ESMUND VAN WYK

Vice President

Esmund is a teacher and sport coordinator at Bellville Technical High School.  A sports lover, mentor and coach he formed part of the core group of initial student athletes to join the programme. 


"My life goal is to leave a legacy my family can be proud of and hopefully follow. We all have acquired so many skills and abilities. The best we can do is to daily spend our energy to make a difference in our world. Sport Skills for Life Skills has been instrumental in helping me make a difference in my community. I'm truly honoured to be a part of this organisation and now serve as a member of the Alumni team."

NURAAN PIPERS

Network Secretary

Nuraan is the current SS4LS Programme Administrator, a role she stepped into in 2014. She's also a former UWC Ladies Cricket Player and Coach, which saw the ladies' side winning 3 trophies under her leadership. Since her retirement from playing and coaching, her role within the Programme has evolved from coaching to being in charge of the day-to-day administrative operations of the Programme. 


Since the inception of the SS4LS Alumni Network, she's been fundamental in helping manage the network's affairs and ensuring that our alumni are served as needed. She often goes unspoken but is an integral part of helping the executive team stay on top of commitments and keeping this machine in good running order.

LLOYD FLANAGAN

Director of Products and Service

One of the “Originals”, an Alumnus from 2002 (graduated in the Earth Sciences Department).  Been adventuring in West Africa since 2009 with books to write on years of experiences out in the bush.  Lloyd believes in laughter and seeks enjoyment in everything he does.  He believes in the team he’s part of, a team that will make the SS4LS Alumni Network a force to be reckoned with.

EDWARD SMALL

Director of Finance

Edward is a qualified Associate General Accountant who graduated through the SS4LS program in 2013. He heads up our Finance team with his infectious enthusiasm and work ethic and is fundamental in ensuring good governance over our financial affairs.

CRAIG GOVENDER

Director of Marketing

Experienced, trustworthy, fun. An avid cricket enthusiast, following his dream as the South African national cricket team physiotherapist. Craig leads our marketing area with enthusiasm and passion, using his extensive networks in the professional game to help build the programme of our Alumni Network.

ADV.  NIC KOCK

Sports Skills for Life Skills Chairperson (Ex-Officio)

Nic established the Sports Skills for Life Skills program and fulfils a number of roles. Most notably, lecturer at the University of the Western Cape, Advocate and Sports Development practitioner with 25 years experience in the higher education and sports development sectors. A committed philanthropist, Nic also graduated from Paul Roos Gymnasium and UWC and remains an integral part of the Alumni / Program connection.
